I started my fitness journey from a low point, I was 22 years old, just over 12 1/2 stone, 36" waist going on to a 38" waist and was struggling to catch my breath after walking up some stairs.
At this point I had two choices, first one was to carry on what I was doing, doing more damage to my body and likely to have health issues in later life and perhaps dying early. The second choice was to change my overall lifestyle and embark on a fitness journey, obviously I decided the latter.
Starting out was a scary experience! Any type of exercise was daunting, the though of going into the gym even more daunting plus the change in my diet it just all seemed unachievable. So instead of being scared away from all the changes I set myself goals, these consisted of small changes every week to my overall diet and add in exercise a minimum of 3 times a week gradually increasing this up to 5/6 sessions a week.
From this I saw improvements quite quickly, after the first 4 weeks I saw a loss of weight and an improvement in my cardiovascular fitness. I carried this on for the next six months and found I lost about 2 1/2 stone. I started to plateau out and was not progressing as quickly as I would have liked so at this point I approached a personal trainer within the gym to get information on what I could do to help push further.
Over the next 3 months he pushed me harder than I had ever worked before and I saw improvements not only with my continued weight loss but also in my strength and overall body definition.
At the end of my 9 months fitness journey I had lost 3 1/2 stone, dropped down 4 jeans sizes to a 30" waist and had so much more confidence in what I could achieve, not only in the gym environment but with everything in my life. It gave me so much confidence that I started setting goals in life and pushing to achieve every single one.
